The Ampersand Review February Writing Series

  • Sheridan College HMC Campus 4180 Duke of York Boulevard Mississauga, ON, L5B 3W3 Canada (map)

Join us for a writing workshop with author Deepa Rajagopalan!

How to write a story that only you can write?

Stories have been told for centuries. There is no new story to be told. Still, every now and then, we encounter a piece of writing that we are convinced we have never seen before. A story that captures something so specific and yet makes us feel less alone. How do we tell a story that is singularly ours? How do we learn from the masters, and still center ourselves in our stories?

In this workshop, participants will dissect works of literature and use prompts to produce beginnings to new stories, centred around their own uniqueness.

  • How to play with voice? Whose voice is it?

  • What am I afraid to write about?

  • How do I use specificity to write that which only I can write?

  • How do I read to write, and then write my own story?

  • How can I be the writer only I can be?

This workshop will enable participants to be inspired and get started on stories they have been wanting to write, but didn’t think they could, or didn't think they could write in a way that only they can.

Please note that this event will be taking place in room B222 in the B-Wing at Sheridan College's Hazel McCallion Campus.
